Restoration of Eastern European
Jewish Cemeteries Project, Inc.
A not-for-profit organization which organizes and
leads restoration endeavors to Eastern Europe, our
foundation works with a diverse population of
domestic and foreign organizations to allow groups
of all ages to make a difference in Jewish culture.
Annually, groups of volunteers work to undo the
destruction of Jewish cemeteries caused by the
invading Nazis during World War II.
The physical goals of our organization are to: install
iron fences around Jewish cemeteries; many of
which are now only barren fields with no perimeter
demarcations and only a few gravestones in view.
We also locate and right grave stones, clear the
overgrowth, and archive the names, dates, and
identities of those who lay at rest. By virtue of this
work, a discarded cemetery is brought back to life
and given the respect it deserves.
Sadly, Jewish cemeteries throughout Eastern
Europe are still being destroyed by lack of care,
commercial interests, and the effects of time. This
is a great loss to Jewish history. Further, the
memory of Jews who contributed so much to the
cultural and academic life of Eastern Europe is
slowly being eradicated.

Why restore Jewish cemeteries in Eastern Europe?
The Holocaust, the intentional destruction of the Jews, their synagogues and their culture by the Nazis, also led to the eventual decay of their cemeteries as well, resulting in the disappearance of the names and identity of family members buried in these sacred grounds; each atrocity adding to the next
Six-million Jews were lost and thousands more displaced as a result of the Holocaust. And into today, their family cemeteries remain uncared for and in ruins.
It is up to us to honor them and their heritage by keeping these sacred grounds holy.
WE CAN DO THIS FOR THEM. WE CAN GIVE THEM BACK THEIR NAMES.
